On Saturday April 30th of 2022, our Foundation Proyectar Sin Fronteras went to Ciudad Bolívar, into the in the poor neighborhood of Brisas Del Volador.
Brisas del Volador is a neighborhood established in hillside areas and former mining fronts. It has a mix of legalized and non-legalized neighborhoods with sectors in which several conditions of risk due to landslides are replicated, related to the establishment of houses on steep slopes, construction deficiencies and poor or nonexistent management of rain and groundwater. The town of Ciudad Bolívar, located near Bogota, is marked by high levels of poverty and marginality, exclusion and insecurity, under the presence of armed cells in specific sectors of the locality, as the urban face of the Colombian social and political conflict.
Unlike other deliveries (such as the one in Tocaimita, which focused entirely on the Pijao indigenous community), the beneficiaries of April 29, 2022 were not displaced or indigenous victims of violence. The target population came from all over Colombia, but also from around Bogotá. They are economic migrants or local people who have moved to the outskirts of Bogotá to find work. The people we met did not always come with their families: many lived alone and had no family support.
This month, we have distributed 150 solidarity markets, as always made of fruits, vegetables and dry products, which are parts of the traditional Colombian basket (including coffee, oil, rice...). Ciudad Bolivar is the first locality in Bogota in terms of the number of people with unsatisfied basic needs. In this city, 8.9% of the population is in multidimensional poverty.
Once again, we want to thank our GlobalGiving Community and all of our donors for their support and help.
Stay tuned for our next reports and actions on the field!
