Food Aid

Dear our great donors,

We thank you so much for the donation you sent to Elyon & Friends Tanzania through GlobalGiving to support food to needy families. It is with great pleasure I am sharing a brief report of what your good donation did.

The people living in remote village of Oldonyosambu located 40kms out of town of Arusha, Tanzania are well aware of climate change. They have experienced excessive heat and severe drought in recent years. The desert-like weather has caused their crops to die and the grass to wither in the heat. The villagers have struggled to keep their livestock fed, animals they rely on for food, revenue and transportation.

Most of the men in the village have had to move from their home, taking their livestock on a search for pastures and water. The family members left behind are mostly women, children and the old. And without water to grow vegetables or the means to generate any income, they are struggling to survive.

On November 18, 2021, Elyon & Friends delivered 20kg of dried maize to each of 180 households. The maize can be used to cook porridge and polenta. A few dozen eggs were also distributed to be fed to malnourished children. The families that received the food were hand-selected by village leaders who know all members in their village and their current situations. The food will help these families survive this difficult time and especially the children, many of whom struggle in school because they’re distracted by hunger.

The need is great. And even the smallest amount can help the people of Arusha.
