According to a recent OCHA report, 15.5 million Afghans are facing acute food insecurity - meaning they do not have enough to eat, which is putting their lives at risk. A couple factors that are contributing to this crisis are the weak Afghan economy, and there are not enough jobs available resulting in increasing numbers of unemployment and underemployment. This desperate situation is causing many Afghan households to be unable to meet their basic needs for food.

AAFF is grateful to be able to continue our food aid program in the last two months by providing two distributions. The first distribution served 100 Afghan families and provided the families with 25 kilos of flour, 1 kilo dry green tea, 5 liters of oil, and 7 kilos of rice, which supports these Afghan household for a couple of weeks.

The second distribution provided 281 Afghan families with 50 kilos of flour, 14 kilos of rice, 10 kilos of lentils, 55 kilos of beans, 7 kilos of sugar, 5 kilos of liquid dish soap, 2 kilos of tomato paste, 2 kilos of salt, and matches, which supports these Afghan household for about a month.

The average number of people in an Afghan household is 7, which means in these two distributions over 2,600 people received some relief from acute food insecurity.
