In the last few months, floods in Afghanistan killed hundreds of people and left thousands of homes destroyed. Additionally, much of the farmland in the areas were swamped and livestock killed.
Although AAFF was not able to respond with a full food distribution, we were able to be on the scene to supply some immediate relief to 200 families by providing bread and water.
The U.N. recently reported that 24 million Afghans are in urgent need of humanitarian assistant.
Women being restricted from many aspects of life - including work and school beyond grade 6 - have caused nine out of ten women-lead households to not be able to meet their food consumption needs.
Humanitarian assistance continues to be a pressing need in Afghanistan, but support of international donors is down. Unfortunately, we are seeing the same trend in our donations, yet we are working hard to obtain funding to continue to support Afghan families - particularly women during this difficult time.
We are also exploring ways to expand our aid program to provide job training for women - something they could do from their homes.
As winter is approaching, we hope to provide at least one more round of aid to support families for a month as well as make progress in a job training program for women.
Thank you for your partnership to "build hope" with Afghan families during these devastating times.
