Over half the population in Afghanistan is still in need of humanitarian assistance due to a struggling economy, ban of women from working in many sectors, and a high unemployment rate. Unfortunately, global support only meets a small portion of this need.
WFP recently reported that nine out of ten women-lead households in Afghanistan do have sufficient food and UNICEF reported 40% of women in Afghanistan suffer from anemia. Additionally, one third of the population survives on bread and tea.
The need in Afghanistan is overwhelming and resources are few. AAFF continues to do what we can to support families in this trying time despite our resources being limited.
This month, we were able to provide 15 families (90 people) with 100 kilos of staple food supplies that includes 50 kg flour, 14 kg rice, 10 kg lentils, 5 kg red beans, 5 litres oil, 7 kg sugar, 2 kg tomato paste, 7 kg sugar, 2 kg salt as well as a packet of matches.
Many of the recipients were women-lead households. These essentials will support these families for a month as well as provide some relief from their suffering.
As the winter approaches, we hope to be able to provide one more round of food aid before the end of the year if funds permit.
