We look back on 2024 with both gratitude and grief. We are so grateful for all the ways we have been able to partner with Afghan communities to build hope in this dark time of their history.
Yet, we grieve over the widespread suffering and injustices that plague Afghanistan.
Nearly 60% of the population needs humanitarian assistance but the available resources only meet a fraction of the need.
In 2024, AAFF has provide food assistance to over 4,600 people.
Neighboring countries have forced Afghan refugees, who have been in their countries for decades, to return to Afghanistan - increasing the humanitarian need within Afghanistan
One of the recent aid recipients was returning from Pakistan and shared their story,
"Many of us fled to Pakistan years ago due to the war, violence, and instability in Afghanistan. Life in refugee camps was difficult, resources were scarce, and opportunities for work or education were limited. Despite the hardships, it was a place of safety away from the dangers of conflict.
Recently, we made the decision to return to Afghanistan, hoping for a chance to rebuild our lives. We need help because our immediate need is food. Without support, many families go hungry, especially children and elderly members who are most vulnerable to malnutrition.
When we returned, we had no food or income. The food aid ensured our family did not go hungry during the critical first weeks. The children, elderly, and pregnant women in our family benefitted the most, as they needed immediate nutrition after the long journey.
The food aid gave us time to focus on rebuilding our home and finding work, instead of worrying about what to eat. Receiving this help made us feel cared for and respected after enduring so much hardship.
Physical aid has been a vital source of emotional and spiritual support for refugee returnees who have faced significant hardships during their displacement and upon returning home. The aid has eased the constant worry about feeding my family. It gave me peace of mind during this uncertain time.
Receiving aid reminded us that we are not alone, and that people care about our well-being. It has given us hope for a better future."
Thank you for your generous donations on Giving Tuesday to help us reach our fundraising goals. Because of you, 10 Afghan families will be provided a month's worth of staple food supplies in 2025. We are grateful we are able to build hope with more Afghan families in 2025 because of your generosity!
