ABCs and Rice is a school that provides free education, food, medical and dental care for 280 needy children and their families. The school provides supplies, clothes, uniforms and health care for these children aged 4 to 16. In addition, the school grows much of its own produce and operates a medical outreach program including dental. ABCs and Rice is a beacon of hope for the children of Cambodia. It is a place where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
Today more than 40% of the population lives on less than $2 a day. Ninety percent of the poor live in rural areas and female- headed households are amongst the poorest. These Cambodians have an average of 5.1 years of education. There are high levels of malnutrition.
ABCs and Rice is a school that provides education, food and healthcare for 220 needy children and their families in Cambodia. It provides books, equipment, clothing and transportation. ABC's and Rice feeds each child two hot meals per day (often the only food they eat) and sends rice home to their families to encourage attendance.
Feeding these 220 children in Cambodia, and sending rice home to their families is saving these peoples' lives. Not only is ABCs and Rice improving the health of several hundred people, it is also providing an education. Two of our first graduates are in medical school and another is training to be a chef.
