Nutritional program in Ecuador

By Sarah Riggott | CEO

The fruits of our labor
The fruits of our labor

Hi there,

This month in Ecuador we focused on nutrition for the children and their families.

Plan Papas is our new pilot project with a goal is harvest enough potatoes to create a revenue stream to pay for the nutrition programme at Muenala. The community is busy preparing their land ready for seeding over the next two weeks.

Plan Iron Woman has been a success so far with the vegetables being enjoyed at school by the children and at home by the mums. We are even providing some starter recipes to encourage different uses of spinach, onions and peas! The mums are also pooling their earned funds from some of the vegetable to buy the more seeds for the garden.

Finally, in Muenala we have planted our vegetable patch this week using homegrown compost to give the veggies the best chance at survival! This will complement the healthy spinach, chard and peas coming from Plan Iron Woman and of course our school nutrition program. And are making small but substantial steps forward for Phoenix.

Nutritional plans are absolutely vital for the development of the children and their families and their ability to absorb an education in the classroom. Thanks to you and your continued support through donations we can keep improving the livelihoods of these communities!

Next Wednesday, June 12, from 9am GlobalGiving is matching all donations to us at 50%. This means a donation of $10 would become $15 thanks to GlobalGiving. This is a fabulous opportunity for you to make your donation even BIGGER and have a BIGGER impact. I’ll send you a reminder just as the match funding starts but please, do consider making a donation that will give more than you expected!

Thank you

Sarah
