Thousands of internally displaced people in the mountains of Kayah State in a camp where our project manager is currently living. And there are more and more every day. They are hungry, need a roof over their heads to brave the rain, medicines and much more. The situation, she wrote to us, is getting worse every day. Numerous children are extremely hungry, crying and at the end of their strength. The parents have almost nothing left to give them.
She wrote to us We`re trying to prepare emergency accomodation, but there are not even enough protection against the weather. I`m sad that we cannot even offer something to put on the floor in these buildings. We are so hungry.
So we have started to support this IDP camp with food, tarpaulins, blankets and mats. It is terribly difficult to even get there. So it takes many days to transport small rations there via detours and in the ant system. Often the aid workers have to turn around because the area is under fire. They constantly live in danger of being arrested or shot.
Thank God we were able to meet several more brave men and women, through our friend on the ground. Positive energy and the will - one goal, one way in different places with different people - that connects us and our ways and brings joy and confidence when it works. And it does work.
We have been working together for a few weeks now. You have had social projects for many years, have good connections everywhere and a large network. I have rarely met people who have so much power and are confident and courageous. Who even in these extremely difficult times do not leave people alone. Who make sure that the most necessary food is distributed to the camps.
We are united by the same dream and the same hope, and we are all driven by the same idea:
*Who does nothing can achieve nothing
*He who says nothing cannot be heard.
*Who only watches is guilty.
In this spirit, we have succeeded and continue to succeed in bringing food supplies to this contested area. Always with the caution that nothing happens to the transporters. This is a top priority, because they too have families, children and friends. Often they have to turn around at a military roadblock, wait and then try again to reach the camp.
What brave guys and gals who put their lives on the line as volunteers to help others.
Please understand that for security reasons we cannot mention names or show faces of our helpers.
