Summary

The situation related with the spread of COVID-19 has a drastic effect especially on the lives of the children and families living in extreme poverty. We have selected 700 extremely poor families in Armenia where the need is especially severe. As a result, these 700 families will be secured with food and hygiene packages. They urgently need support from all of us. We are now working to support these families, but our resources are limited and we need YOUR support to be able to serve all of them.

Challenge

In Armenia 11,002 children live in extreme poverty and 214,172 children - in poverty. Due to the emergency state established in Armenia, it is especially difficult for these children and their families. They have no savings, but often debts, and cannot afford to stockpile food and other necessities. When families that are already dependent on casual, low paid, or unstable work, lose their jobs or are forced to isolate because of the COVID-19 outbreak, they have little to fall back on.

Solution

The current action aims at delivering urgent humanitarian aid to the families most affected by the crisis. We have selected 700 extremely poor families where the need is especially severe. Each of these families was hardly providing their daily food even before the emergency state, but today, the issue is vital, and it will get harder and harder in the nearest future. As a result the above-mentioned 700 families will be provided with food and hygiene items of urgent necessity.

Long-Term Impact

First, the project will prevent child malnutrition in selected 700 extremely poor families, which leads to different health problems and development distractions among children. Also, due to lack of basic needs and ability to earn, tension between family members rises, frequently leading to violence. Furthermore, we are going to elaborate strategy of long-term poverty reduction and improved resilience of these 700 families towards disasters alike COVID-19 or others.
