Meet Frankie, he is 4 years old and was born to a teenage mother in the rural areas of Zimbabwe. When he was born his mother, Polly, was ostracized from her family because of Frankie’s disability. So Polly made her way into Bulawayo and a good samaritan met her and took her to social welfare who then referred her to the CURE Children’s Hospital where Frankie was able to have surgery to correct his spine. From there social welfare then asked us at the Sandra Jones Centre to assist them.
Frankie is now in the preschool class at our onsite school. Polly has now joined our vocational skills training program and has learned skills that will enable her to support herself and her son with an agricultural project of her own. We are so grateful to AFCA for helping us set up own greenhouse project which not only feeds our children but also provides extra skills to our vocational skills students.
It is so lovely to see Polly smiling and being amongst girls her own age and getting the counseling, love and attention that she needs. She walks around literally beaming. Frankie has started speaking now and can form a few sentences. He has progressed from a wheelchair to walking with assistance and he loves music and singing. The other children are so protective of him and he is never without a friend holding his hand and helping him on the swings.
Another young girl has been educated and empowered in Zimbabwe.
