We have an update on our feeding program which runs three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each pupil is entitled to a boiled egg and two slices of bread. The Home Economics teacher at the school who also assists in the feeding of the pupils noted the following among pupils:
• The health of pupils has improved as pupils who do not get adequate protein at home get a supplement at school through the eggs they eat.
• Concerntration of pupils during lessons has improved as they will have had something to eat during break hence intellectual development is promoted. The school has a large number of pupils coming from economically disadvantaged families who cannot afford to carry food to eat at break time.
• Enrolment has increased at the school
• Social development in pupils as those pupils who used to stay at home now come to school and mingle with different pupils.
However, there are some pupils who tend to come to school on feeding days only. This is probably caused by the situations back at home. Overall, this is a great report and is more than we could have hoped for at this point!
Our teams here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS and our partners in Africa thank you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in in our programs. If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
