Isolation to Dignity : How You Saved Kotteswari

Your generosity is actively rescuing neglected elderly women from the gripping fear of poverty and starvation. Through your support on GlobalGiving USA, the Community Health Health Education and Society (CHHASE) team is turning despair into hope, one everyday moment at a time.

You aren't just sending monthly groceries or healthcare. You are restoring a life of confidence and dignity. Because of you, these beautiful souls realize they are never alone.

At 80 years old, Kotteswari should have been resting. Instead, after a lifetime of hard labor, she spent her days helping at her son’s small petty shop in Tiruvallur, battling severe diabetes, hypertension, and crippling joint pain. Like so many elderly women, she ignored her own pain to avoid being a financial burden.

Then, tragedy struck. four years ago, Kotteswari lost her son.

Grieving, isolated, and left with no income, starvation and untreated illness were knocking at her door.

Groceries at her doorsteps. Just when the darkness felt absolute, your support arrived.

The CHHASE mobile unit began parking directly opposite her quiet hut. No long, painful walks. No expensive hospital bills. No anxiety.

BEFORE CHHASE she was Unable to manage diabetes & high blood pressure, Severe, untreated knee pain and Grieving, isolated, and starving.

The Reality Facing Our Elders

Many of the elderly individuals who come to us have faced unimaginable heartbreak. They have been abandoned by their own children and relatives—often after being manipulated into giving up their land and life savings. Left with no income, failing health, and no family to turn to, they are frequently left starving and deeply traumatized.

Your support is the only safety net they have left. To show you the real-world impact of your kindness, we would love to share Amutha’s story with you.

From Despair to Dignity

Amutha is 82 years old. Decades ago, she lived a joyful, vibrant life. She and her husband owned a small piece of cultivable land, harvesting rice and dal every year. They happily celebrated festivals, cooked sweets, and shared their abundance with neighbours and relatives.

Tragically, her husband passed away in an accident 23 years ago, leaving her to raise their son and daughter alone. After marrying off her daughter, Amutha focused on her son. Unfortunately, after his marriage, her son fell into severe alcohol addiction. Seizing an opportunity, he tricked Amutha into signing away her land deeds on stamp paper and sold her only source of livelihood. Once the money was spent, he abandoned her completely, stating he could no longer feed or look after her.

For three painful years, Amutha survived by begging on the streets, battling hunger and heartbreak. Nine years ago, CHHASE brought her into our care. Today, Amutha no longer has to beg or wonder where her next meal will come from. She is safe, healthy, and surrounded by a community that loves her.

To ensure Amutha and many others like her never face hunger again, our team delivers essential monthly grocery kits directly to their doorsteps. Each kit contains:

5 kg Ponni Rice & 1 kg Atta

1 kg Tuar Dal & ½ kg Green Dal

1 kg Cooking Oil, 100gm coconut oil,

1 kg Sugar, 200g Tea Leaves, & 250g Milk Powder, hair oil, soaps,

Biscuits, essential toiletries, and seasonal clothing

Your generosity help us to provide Food groceries to neglected elder people. We provide rice, thuvar dal, cooking oil, tamarind, condiments, bathing soap, washing soaps, paste, hair oil, Etc, and fruits. Provision of clothing keep them to live with dignity. These provisions are happening because of your generous support and sacrifice of your hard earnings towards elderly care. All our elders are very happy, healthy and thanking you for helping them to live with dignity. CHHASE and our staff thank you for your support.

CHHASE and Elderly care

CHHASE identify the economically disadvantaged, neglected elder people in rural areas, where they are facing lot of problems to escape starvation, clothing and timely medical support to the elderly people. They lose their dignity. These are their main problems they come across daily. They curse their fate to be as waste to their own blood relations, neighbors etc. CHHASE give them confidence, affection, support and care. Our caring gives them double energy, remove their ill feelings and bring confidence that there is someone to care for them.

CHHASE provide food goceries, clothing and medical care to the elders. With this timely support the elders are happy and feel that they are in safe and secure. CHHASE provide not only food support, we have provided warm clothing and medical treatment for them with love. When they feel that there is someone to care and love them, they are more confident and feel that they are safe and secure.
