Help Rural Cambodians Escape Hunger and Poverty

Mr. Pok received Trailblazer’s Homestead Garden and Composting training in his village. Trailblazer’s Agriculture Specialist recently monitored Mr. Pok’s progress, brought seeds for him, and provided more techniques to strengthen his knowledge and capacity for cultivation. He was asked about the difference in his life before and after he received training from Trailblazer’s project.

He reported that before receiving any agriculture or technical training he did not experience good results with growing of vegetables. He did not know how to prepare the land or how to make organic fertilizer and so used chemical fertilizer. He spent a lot of water and labor on his farm, as well as a lot of money on seeds. He worried about the cost because the income was less than the expenses. 

After receiving training from Trailblazer he learned that growing vegetables in a modern way saved a lot of time and water, and saved money on seeds. He began planting intercropping with a variety of vegetables. It was no longer difficult to plant and care for his crops and he was able to expand growing into two more agricultural sectors on his farm.

He made more revenue for the family. From vegetable sales they saved enough money to buy chickens for raising. Mr. Pok now earns between $7.50USD to $17.50USD every day from his vegetable sales, compared to an average income of $4.36/day. In the future, he says they will continue to expand the cultivation because they have the land and enough water. They are so happy, and thank Trailblazer who established this project in their village.
