Help Rural Cambodians Escape Hunger and Poverty

This is an update on the Farmer Community Group [FCG] that was established in Pouk district in 2022. Trailblazer had conducted several agricultural trainings on techniques of cultivation and the advantages of using the correct farming materials so farmers can increase their productivity, reduce their costs, and improve the quality of their products. Trailblazer also provided vegetable seeds to get the project started. It was determined the FCG had the capacity for successful cultivation of crops.

During Trailblazer’s Agriculture Supervisor, Ms. Monypheap's visit with the FCG in October of 2023, her monitoring and conducting interviews with several of the farmers directly, she discovered that their vegetables had been damaged by the heavy flooding. Farmers who did not have raised land where they could grow vegetables were focusing on caring for their cows, pigs, chickens, and ducks. The farmers reported they planned to begin growing vegetables again in December and January.

The FCG wanted Trailblazer to help them transform their land so it could be used for cultivation in both the dry season and rainy season. Training was given on irrigation systems that can be used to deliver water to crops in a controlled and efficient manner to improve crop yields and reduce water waste.

For next season, the group is planning to establish a village fund in their group, because when farmers come together they have fun, it helps boost morale and builds stronger social ties within the community. This all leads to a more supportive and collaborative environment which can benefit everyone involved.
