Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the For $10, Help Close Maternal and Infant Care Gaps project. Your generosity reflects concern for mothers and newborns living in rural and underserved communities. At this stage, the amount received is still too small to begin field operations, and the planned services have not yet started.
Across rural Nigeria, pregnancy and childbirth remain dangerous for many women. Current estimates show that 1,047 mothers die for every 100,000 births. In many remote villages, only a small number of women give birth in a health facility. A large portion of deliveries still happen at home without skilled medical assistance.
Severe bleeding after childbirth continues to be one of the leading causes of maternal deaths. Many families live far from clinics, lack transportation, or cannot afford routine medical visits. Women facing poverty, disability, HIV-related stigma, or social exclusion are even less likely to receive proper maternal care. As a result, thousands of mothers and newborns die each year from causes that could be prevented with timely medical attention.
This project aims to provide monthly maternal and infant health services for 3,000 women and newborns in rural communities. Support of $10 per person will help cover antenatal care, clean delivery kits, and follow-up visits after childbirth. Mobile outreach teams will travel to remote villages to deliver these services directly to households where access to healthcare is limited.
Regular maternal care can detect complications early and reduce risks during pregnancy and delivery. Postnatal support will also help mothers recover safely while ensuring newborns receive early health checks.
Although the project has received encouraging support, the available funds cannot yet cover the preparation and outreach needed to begin services. We continue to seek further contributions so that these essential maternal and infant health visits can start reaching the communities that need them most.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
