Uganda hosts an estimated1.5 million Refugees in the West Nile region. Most of these refugees are from South Sudan and Democratic republic of Congo (DRC). These refugees live with host communities who have welcomed them and they live together. The refugees and host communities togeter share commom public goods that include schools, Health sstems,markets, water,roads and land. Most of these refugees are likely to remain in the country for quite a long time.
The public resources shared by the refugees and the host communitues are limited. Many roads are damaged, few water sources, schools have no roofs and poor sanitary facilities. The land is limited and it needs maximum utilization. Health facilities and healthacre workers are few compared to the number of refugees and host communities.
The project will support more children to go to school, the project will conduct mobile clinics in the communities to support, reproductive Health, screening of non communicable diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, cervical cancer.The propject will raise funds to improve the school infrastructure like roofing, teachers houses, drinking water. tHe project will teach the Refugees and host communities in good agricultural practices for improved crop production and income
There is need to ensure Resilience,sustainability and peaceful coaexistence of Refugees and host communities. This can best be achieved through improvement of infrastructure in schools, health facilities, safe drinking water and effective utilization of land and better crop production. Innovations in animal production, bee keeping and other sustainable enterprises.
