Summary

We have refugees from DRC and we are helping them Inside Uganda. We also have a site inside Democratic republic of Congo in the Northern part of Ituri province. Most of the refugees do not go back home because of economic reasons. Our concept is based on the fact that if we empower the refugees economically and they go back home and continue with the economic activities then we prevent more refugees from coming to Uganda at the same time encourage the ones in Ugandato go back home

Challenge

The communities in DRC are poor at the same time sick. Economic activities are limited and healthcare system is in dire need. The communities need economic empowerment where we hope to address it through rabbit breeding and bee keeping for honey. There are companies that are ready to buy rabbit meat and at the same time it will provide the communities with the highly needed protein. Modern Bee hives will be provided by the companies that will buy the honey from the communities

Solution

We have provided emergency healthcare through mobile clinics in DRC. The communities in the North Western Uganda and Northern Ituri province of DRC speak the same language that makes communication quite easy. Complicated cases are referred to the Ugandan side of the health facilities. Refugees and Host communities project in the North Western part of Uganda is still very active supported by the government of Uganda and other development partners.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help the refugees in Uganda to go back to Democratic republic of Congo voluntarily and also the vulnerable communities in the Democratic republic of Congo get engaged in acitive income generating activies specificall bee keeping that will make them earn income from honey and Rabbit breeding that they will sell to the companies that are involved in value addition of providing rabbit meat. Private companies will be engaged in this project as key stake holders
