This year long art as cultural diplomacy program offers 100 youth ages 14-18 an opportunity to develop their creative abilities, build entrepreneurial skills and explore their own solutions for some of the world's most pressing issues. The program builds practical skills in Theater, Visual Art, Dance and Music while addressing themes of Gender Equality; Good Health and Well-being; Decent Work & Economic Growth; and Climate Action. Our goal is to groom youth to be future catalysts for change.
Though described as a high income country, Trinidad and Tobago remains plagued by many social ills such as youth gang violence, violent crime, gender based violence, the effects of climate change and high incidence of lifestyle diseases in youth. The future does not look as bright as it should for young Trinbagonians. This project seeks to empower them through creative activities, diplomacy, entrepreneurship training and social impact sensitization to become and to create the change they need.
The program will build the technical skills of 100 young persons across Trinidad and Tobago in visual arts, theater, dance and music across T&T, via 6-month training, facilitated by local and international creative practitioners. Social impact facilitators will guide youth through a 2 month training program to focus on how their communities can be made better by focusing on gender, climate, health and wellness and economic impact. Youth will learn how to apply creativity to solve problems.
This sharing of talent, discussion, stories of cultural identity, work and overall interaction between Trinidad and Tobago youth and the wider world facilitates empowerment ad development at the core, resulting in 100 young people being better prepared for higher education, creative employment and advocacy. The project will give them the skills to not only effect change in their own lives but in the lives of those around them.
