Small Donation, Meaningful Care for 35 Children

During this reporting period, we were grateful to receive a generous donation of US$24 through our Free Childcare Service for Poor Mothers in Ethiopia project. Although modest in size, this contribution, combined with Meseret Humanitarian Organization's (MHO) own resources and community support, made a meaningful difference in the lives of 35 vulnerable children and their hardworking mothers.

The funding enabled MHO to continue providing holistic, community-based childcare services in a safe and nurturing environment. The children received nutritious daily meals, hygiene and sanitation support, early childhood education, play-based learning activities, psychosocial care, and regular health monitoring. These integrated services help children develop physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively during their most important early years while protecting them from neglect and unsafe environments.

For many of the mothers we serve, affordable childcare simply does not exist. Most work as informal laborers, street vendors, domestic workers, or waste pickers, earning only enough each day to feed their families. Without dependable childcare, they are often forced to miss work, leave young children unattended, or rely on older daughters to stay home from school to care for younger siblings. Through this project, mothers are able to work with greater peace of mind, knowing that their children are safe, well-nourished, learning, and cared for by trained caregivers.

One mother shared that before joining the program, she frequently lost income because she had no safe place to leave her youngest child while working. Since enrolling her child in MHO's free childcare service, she has been able to work more consistently, improve her family's income, and provide greater stability for her children. She also expressed relief that her school-age daughter no longer has to sacrifice her education to care for younger siblings at home. This story reflects the transformative impact that accessible childcare can have on an entire family.

While US$124 may appear to be a small contribution, when combined with MHO's commitment, volunteer support, and efficient use of resources, it translated into real and measurable impact for children and families facing extreme poverty. Every meal served, every learning activity provided, every health check completed, and every hour of safe care helped create opportunities for children to thrive and for mothers to pursue dignified livelihoods.

We sincerely thank our GlobalGiving donors and supporters for standing with vulnerable women and children in Ethiopia. Your generosity demonstrates that every gift, regardless of its size, creates hope and lasting change. Together, we are helping ensure that children receive the care they deserve while empowering poor mothers to work, strengthen their families, and build a brighter future.
