In Egypt, thousands of widows and female breadwinners are imprisoned for small debts after signing blank cheques under pressure to feed their families. This unjust system destroys lives and families. We're working to free these women by repaying debts, providing legal aid, and offering rehabilitation. Your support restores freedom, dignity, and hope-giving these women and their children a second chance.
In Egypt, over 30,000 women-mostly widows and mothers-are jailed for unpaid debts. Often desperate to provide for their children, they're coerced into signing blank cheques, later used to imprison them with over-inflated amounts. These women are criminalized for poverty, losing their freedom, and leaving their families behind. This system traps them in a cycle of shame, despair, and long-term suffering.
This project repays the debts of imprisoned women and provides legal support to secure their release. We partner with local advocates to ensure fair treatment and offer rehabilitation programs, including job skills training and counseling. By addressing both the legal injustice and its aftermath, we help these women reclaim their freedom, rebuild their lives, and protect their families from further hardship.
Freeing women from prison allows them to return to their families, regain stability, and become productive members of society. With vocational training and support, they can achieve lasting independence. Over time, this reduces recidivism, prevents future financial entrapment, and promotes systemic change. Empowered women lead to stronger families, healthier communities, and greater gender equality.
