Our unique & proven method has helped 500,000 Ethiopians achieve sustainable economic growth, improve nutrition & health, empower women, & raise the rate of children at school to over 90%. Despite sufficient land and water, millions of smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa are trapped in an endless cycle of poverty, hunger, poor nutrition & health, and lack of ability to educate their children. Without access to modern agricultural solutions (high quality crop varieties and basic knowledge of modern farming) their fields remain unproductive, condemning families to the prison of subsistence living - with no resilience to the many challenges ahead.
By providing quality vegetable varieties best suited to local conditions (including potatoes), and on-farm training in the basics of modern farming, our Key Farmers will improve yields and more than double annual incomes. Seeing the results in fields & marketplaces, up to 90% of neighboring farmers will adopt our methods, creating change across an entire region. We'll also train local development agents to teach our methods both in areas we don't reach and after our project ends.
In just 6 years, we have freed 500,000 people from poverty in Ethiopia. With increased incomes, these families then cultivate more land and plant fruit trees, buy cows etc., adding to their economic resilience. Independent reports show sustainable results: better nutrition & health, women's empowerment, and more children at school (up from c. 50% to +90%). Now, we'll also offer best varieties of potatoes, one the world's most important sources of national food security according to UN FOA.
