Summary

According to USAID's last referenced Global health report, there are c.17.5 million orphans and vulnerable children in Nigeria. Due to several environmental factors, these children face enormous challenges to their health and development. Although there are several orphanages, the resources of most of these organisations have been overextended. Project drug-aid box aims to relieve some of the pressure these organisations face by continuously providing medicines and other First-Aid materials.

Challenge

A contributing factor is that most of these orphanages and care homes are privately owned and are not assured of regular funds to keep them running, putting these children at the mercy of infrequent donations. Similar problems are faced in the very few elderly care homes in Nigeria. Many of the elderly in these homes have life threatening diseases such diabetes, hypertension, arthritis etc that require constant use of medication.

Solution

Project drug-aid box aims to relieve some of the pressure these organisations are experiencing by continuously providing medicines, multivitamins and other first-aid materials that are needed to as many orphanages and care homes as possible. The goal is to alleviate the mortality rate occasioned by the inaccessibility of medicine and first aid equipment to people of low income and other vulnerable situations.

Long-Term Impact

In January 2021, Drug-Aid Africa initiated project Drug-Aid box and since then over 100 children in various orphanages across Nigeria get constant supply of multivitamins, and other first-aid materials. Similarly, over 100 people in care homes have gotten constant supply of medicines based on their prescription. These and many more have been the impact of the Project Drug-Aid Box so far which it seeks to intensify, ensuring a wider scope and the constant replenishment of its contents.
