Urgent Support Needed for Rural Health Workers

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We are appealing for support for the Free Mobile Phones for 50 Rural Nurses and Doctors project. At this time, no donations have been received. Without funding, we are unable to begin distributing mobile phones to healthcare workers serving in remote communities.

Many nurses and doctors working in rural Nigeria do not have reliable communication tools. In emergency situations, they may be unable to quickly contact referral hospitals, request urgent advice, or coordinate patient transfers. This delay can affect timely treatment, especially for pregnant women, accident victims, and critically ill patients who need immediate attention.

Healthcare workers in remote areas serve large populations across long distances. Without mobile phones, some must travel physically to deliver messages or wait until they reach areas with communication access. These barriers slow response time and place patients at greater risk.

This project will provide 50 mobile phones to nurses and doctors working in underserved locations. Each phone will include essential medical contact numbers, airtime, and basic data to allow immediate communication. Health workers will also receive guidance on using the phones to report urgent cases, coordinate referrals, and seek medical support when needed.

With reliable communication, rural health workers can act faster during emergencies. They will be able to contact hospitals, consult colleagues, and arrange timely care for patients. This simple intervention can improve coordination and help save lives in communities where access to care is limited.

At present, no funds have been raised, and the project cannot begin until support is received. We kindly ask for your contribution to help equip these frontline healthcare workers with the communication tools they urgently need.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
