UNESCO King Hamad Prize in Bangladesh
JAAGO Foundation received “The 2016 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize” in recognition of its “Online School” project for innovative use of information and communications technology (ICT) in the field of Education.
The theme for this year’s the UNESCO (United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) King Hamad Prize recognized the urgent need to respond to major obstacles that lie in the path of the most vulnerable populations with regard to equitable and inclusive access to quality education and lifelong learning.
JAAGO Foundation had been reaching underprivileged children in rural areas of Bangladesh through its’ Online School program that provides learners with high-quality courses through interactive video-conferencing. Instruction, covering English, Bengali, and mathematics, as well as natural and social sciences, is delivered by highly trained teachers based in the capital. With 2,500 annual beneficiaries in 13 schools, JAAGO Foundation aims to help bridge the educational quality gap between urban and rural students in Bangladesh.
A Fairytale visit of the Princess of Denmark
Fatema’s father died when she was in Class 5.This shattered all her future dreams, hopes of continuing her studies and building a better future for her. But JAAGO Foundation, where she was studying free of cost at that time could not let this happen. It gave her the confidence to overcome her condition and continue to reach for her dreams. JAAGO Foundation gave her a job as a teacher’s assistant at the school and helped her in every other ways, so that she can continue her studies. Now a class 10 student of JAAGO Foundation Rayer Bazar School branch, she is much more confident and aspires to be a civil engineer in future. Listening the story of her struggle and achievements from Fatema herself at the presentation, Mary Elizabeth, Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess of Denmark could not hold her tears.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth of Denmark, His Excellence Mikael Hemniti Winther, Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh and some distinguishable delegates from Denmark, Danish Embassy to Bangladesh and Plan International Bangladesh paid a visit to JAAGO Foundation on the 6th April, 2017.
There when asked by a student why “Denmark is the happiest country of the world” according to the World Happiness Report 2016, United Nations, she replied her country has been able to achieve this success as her people trust the country’s institutions, their leaders and believes in gender equality. And she definitely believes Bangladesh has all these potentials and if practiced properly can come out as a much successful, happier country.
Agricultural Project Exhibition
Agriculture is the backbone of Bangladesh. It is the main source of national income for our country. To emphasize the importance and show a practical presentation on different sectors of the agricultural field of our country, the students of class 8 of JAAGO Foundation Rayer Bazar School branch displayed some projects as part of one of their assignments today.
They displayed their beautiful and well thought projects in four groups, covering different topics like- Greenhouse effect, Irrigation, Different diseases of plants and the better use of fertilizers. The students showed much effort and brilliantly put forwarded their detailed projects. They made the projects looked so real not with the project work but also with the traditional colorful attire.
10th year anniversary of JAAGO
JAAGO turned 10 this year! It was a roller coaster ride during this long journey and who else knows the struggles better than the students of JAAGO! All the students of 13 branches of JAAGO schools celebrated the 10th year anniversary of JAAGO with their parents on the day of Bengali New Year.
The students invited their parents to their schools and received them with warm greetings and badges. The little angels decorated their schools by their own even they hosted the whole program and showed their parents what impact JAAGO is putting on their life and how JAAGO is changing their dreams.
The students from all grades of all 13 branches arranged cultural programs and hosted by their own. They showed their parents some videos and documentaries on JAAGO and performed rhymes, songs in front of their parents and teachers.
The students made the 10th year anniversary of JAAGO so colorful on the occasion of Bengali New Year that it looked like the whole Bangladesh was celebrating with them! For JAAGO family, spirit of this happiness captivated them throughout the week.
