Summary

3,000,000 adolescent girls in Uganda drop out from schools,face domestic abuse,child marriage, stigmatised,due to menarche (their first periods) The cost of sanitary pads are too expensive to buy, as a result, many girls use unhealthy menstrual solutions like old newspapers, rags, clothes, toilet papers making them vulnerable to infections. some go for transaction sex in exchange for money to big pads. That leads them to Miss 20% of school days we provide, train girls to make disposable pads

Challenge

Once girls drop out from schools during their periods. This deprives them of getting quality education,future employment, health care,psychological disorder The project has continued supporting menstrual hygiene awareness in schools to ensure that young women are empowered through livelihood skills,menstrual management, safe water and sanitation in schools, poverty in households and lighting homes Training and build capacities of 700 woman, in mass production of affordable and reusable pads

Solution

Intruduction of girls e- courses in 900 schools, Capacity Building and training 900 adolescent girls,900 unemployed women, in mass production of affordable re-usable sanitary pads using cotton fabrics. Training includes: embroidering sanitary pads,cotton texture materials, testing cloth fabrics for absorptive ability,material costings ,production of napkins samples in various shapes and.samples for drying time, This will achieve 90-90-90 targets in 2 years

Long-Term Impact

Adolescent girls and women globally needs inspiration and support to make informed decisions,livelihood, not just information, only inspired,educated women can change social economic status of their family and world improved menstrual hygiene,sanitation in schools, economic livelihood of women can support next generations,Teenager pregnancies, school dropouts are already supported Women groups have started the production of local sanitary pads and hope for mass production as long term measure.
