Children enjoying Centre Kimbilio
Children enjoying Centre Kimbilio

A new artisanal mine has just opened close by to our Centre Kimbilio in Lubumbashi. Centre Kimbilio has been open for nearly a decade now, offering safety, food and support to vulnerable street children. Over the years, Kimbilio staff were often aware of children who had walked many kilometers from the artisanal mines to escape exploitation in the mines. However, this new artisanal colbalt mine is bringing many children and families to the local area. Kimbilio helps over 450 children each month, which will only increase with this new development.

As we continue to develop our project to support children from the artisanal mines, Kimbilio hopes to fund an educational programme to take litracy skills to children living on mine sites with their families. It may just be one small drop in the ocean, but Kimbilio hopes this preventative intervention will help stop more children ending up on the streets.

So thank you. Your support is amazing and we are so grateful for it. Please don't forget us on July 18th when GlobalGiving will be running their Rewards Bonus Day. There will be $120,000 in matching funds and bonus prizes available for charities. It runs from 9:00am to 11:59pm EDT (that's 2pm to 4:49am GMT) on Wednesday July 18th.
