Over the last 3 months, Be Enriched and Brixton People's Kitchen have been responding to the COVID-19 crisis by delivering food parcels and hot meals to over 200 households per week, feeding over 560 people across Wandsworth and Lambeth. During this crisis we have seen a staggering increase in food insecurity, and projects like the Food Bus are perhaps needed now more than ever.
The lockdown has slowed the progress on the refit on the bus a bit, but we are still rolling along and expected to launch this summer! Due to the need to social distance, we are adapting the way that the bus will operate, but we will still be bringing affordable food to those who need it.
We, along with other food charities in London and across the UK, have learned a lot about the vulnerabilities in our food system during this time of crisis. The good news is that we will apply the lessons learned to our bus project to make sure that we have a consistent supply of healthy and affordable food for our community.
Stay tuned to our website and social media for updates as the bus is completed and we get out on the road!
