Help Keep the Wheels on our Food Bus Turning!

As winter descends and temperatures continue to drop, Be Enriched’s Food Bus remains a lifeline of support for communities across South London. Over the past three months, rising food costs, colder weather and increasing pressure on household food and fuel bills mean more people are relying on the Food Bus Project to access affordable, nutritious food with dignity and care.

Thanks to your support, we have remained on the road, reaching people where they are and helping families stretch their budgets during a particularly challenging time of year.

These figures reflect more than sales alone. They represent families being able to put fresh produce on the table, older residents accessing healthy food close to home, and households making nutritious choices despite financial pressure.

Holiday Activities and Community Outreach

Alongside regular Food Bus routes, we delivered Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) sessions during the autumn period, providing food and connection outside of term time. Together we served 100 meals and we supported 40 children and their families. 

Activities included cooking workshops, shared meals and seasonal activities such as pumpkin carving. For many families, these sessions offered relief from the financial strain of the school holidays, while giving children a safe, positive space to learn, eat and socialise. Most importantly, our activities mean children who rely on free school meals can continue to access healthy meals outside of term time.

The Food Bus team also supported a local primary school winter fete, serving healthy, home-cooked daal to 50 people, including children and families. This allowed us to connect with the wider community and ensure no one missed out on warm, nourishing food during the festive period.

We are now preparing for our December Kids Clubs, ensuring children who rely on free school meals continue to receive nutritious food and enriching activities throughout the winter break.

Looking Ahead to Winter

Winter is the most challenging time of year for the communities we serve and for the Food Bus team. Colder temperatures, shorter days and difficult weather conditions increase both demand and operational challenges. Despite this, our team remains committed to continuing this work, ensuring the Food Bus stays stocked, staffed and accessible.

The Food Bus is Busier Than Ever! Help keep our doors open and our shelves full.

Dear Friends,

This summer, our Food Bus team has been beating the heat and working tirelessly to keep South London communities nourished. Every week, we’ve been on the road, making sure people can access fresh, affordable food whenever they need it. On top of our regular stops, we’ve been putting in extra hours, celebrating with the community by making fresh smoothies at local events, while juggling multiple food suppliers to keep our shelves stocked with the fruit and vegetables people want to see. This hard work ensures families feel represented in our service and can shop with dignity, reducing stigma and building trust across the capital.

Since May, we’ve welcomed 750 customers across our six weekly stops, covering Lambeth, Wandsworth, and Merton. None of this would have been possible without your support, which keeps the wheels turning and the shelves full.

Summer Highlights

• RockiFest! Rockingham Estate (13 July): Our blender was in overdrive as we made 250 fresh smoothies, keeping families cool and healthy with fruit-filled refreshments.
• Allen Edwards Summer Fete: 100 mango and pineapple slushies made with real fruit and ice, a hit with children and parents alike!
• Henry Fawcett Summer Fete: 150 houmous pots served with crunchy carrot and cucumber sticks, giving children a fresh, nutritious snack during the festivities.
• Holiday Activities & Food (HAF) Programme: We welcomed children into fun, hands-on sessions full of cooking, creativity, and good food. From delicious meals to engaging workshops, the Food Bus team helped make school holidays brighter for families across South London.

Why the Food Bus Project Is So Vital

For too many families, supermarkets are out of reach, whether due to cost, distance, or choice. The Food Bus provides consistent access to good food while maintaining dignity and affordability. All produce is priced up to 25% lower than supermarkets, giving people real choice and a sense of pride and dignity in their weekly shop.
