By The Food Bus | Team
The Food Bus Van has come into its own recently whilst waiting for our Food Bus to be mended.
The team have worked tirelessly to continue to support the community with local grocery deliveries to make sure that no one goes without while the bus is in the garage. Now over 22 customers and families are utilising their home delivery service via the food bus van regularly.
In January alone, 60 low-income families were provided with a week's worth of food shopping, all hand-delivered by our drivers Duc and Judy, led by our dedicated manager Anna.
With the help of our partners, the team have also been able to rescue an extremely large amount of surplus food. All of which was redistributed into the community to help tackle food waste and divert fresh produce, cupboard staples, snacks and treats to hungry bellies.
With 56% of customers having at least one child living at home, customers have proven to be happy with the new increased choice of fresh produce on offer to them. One Food Bus member commented: “The choice always changes. I have a teenager, I’m not worried about them getting enough food but sometimes I worry they don’t eat healthily enough.”
The Food Bus is set to return to us in the next few weeks and they cannot wait to welcome everyone back on board and hit the road.
