We've been busy!

By Georgia Wright | Media and Comms Manager

The Food Bus team have been hard at work over the last few months providing communties with low cost, healthy food as well as hosting families in their school holiday kids clubs.
In the last 2 months alone the bus has boasted:
  •  301 of low cost fruit, veg, cupboard staples and more!
  • 415 happy customers that have hopped on board.

Not only this, but the team provided school holiday provisions in both May and April for up to 30 children.

May activities
Soil planting workshop, where children get their own/shared Pot Gang box with everything needed to plant veg (compost, pots and seeds). They were led through instructions to plant the seeds, some children decorated the jars as well. Everyone took their boxes home, and could continue growing their spinach, basil, and bean sprouts over the sunny days to come!
Summer Roll Workshop - here we invited families to watch a demonstration of making summer rolls - a healthy and delicious meal made from fresh veggies and rice paper. The children then picked their own selection of colourful chopped vegetables and made their own! Everyone got stuck in and enjoyed a well earned, delicious lunch.
We also teamed up with Oasis adventure playground where kids got to enjoy the fun of zipwire, pedal karts, swings, football and more!
April activities
Nutritionists from Chartwells (catering company) ran two different workshops.
  • Making hummus and flatbreads - the team went through the nutritional properties of the ingredients with our attendees and who then got to blend the chickpeas to make hummus, and knead the dough to make flatbreads.

  • Rainbow wraps - in this session we played the hungry caterpillar video for children to watch, and then got kids to make their own colourful rainbow wraps, made from tortillas and vegetables. We then did a craft activity in the afternoon where everyone decorated a 2D egg with drawings and sticky gems.

As we look ahead, Be Enriched and The Food Bus team will continue to serve their communities through the provision of low cost, healthy, nutritious food and activities that bring people together. Stay tuned!
