On The Road: The Food Bus In Action!

By Georgia Wright | Media and Comms Manager

On the Road: The Food Bus in Action

Since our last update, the Food Bus has welcomed 772 customers across 70 stops, bringing healthy, affordable food directly to neighbourhoods that need it most. Fresh produce continues to be in high demand, with apples, carrots, and bananas topping our list of favourites.

We’re thrilled to have launched two new stops, at the Acacia Centre, near Mitcham Eastfields Estate, and the Jubilee Children’s Centre in Tulse Hill. These additions help us reach even more families, especially in areas underserved with limited access to fresh fruit and veg.

To keep our community better informed and engaged, we’ve created WhatsApp Communities for each stop. These groups allow us to share updates, deals, and news directly with our customers, and they’ve quickly become a vital part of our service.

None of this would be possible without your support, thank you for helping us keep shelves stocked and communities nourished.

Holiday Activities & Food (HAF): Spring Session Joy

This Easter, we were delighted to welcome 48 children to our HAF programme, a week of food, fun, and creative exploration.

From cooking delicious, wholesome meals (like paneer spring rolls, guacamole, and lentil rice dishes) to crafting Easter bunny ears and masks, every day was filled with laughter and learning. Highlights included our Pot Gang planting activity and a special oral hygiene session, making health education fun and approachable.

Here's what some of our families had to say:

“Looking forward to joining more sessions in the future.”
“My child (and I) really enjoyed the session. Those running it did a great job.”
“Just thank you so much for the facility!!”
“The programme is excellent.”

Thanks to you, these sessions were free, inclusive, and full of joy.

Looking Ahead

We’re not slowing down. This summer, we’re planning new outreach at our stop in Tulse Hill, launching a Food Bus membership scheme, and preparing for our Summer HAF sessions, which promise even more food, learning, and fun.

As the cost-of-living crisis continues, our work becomes ever more vital. Your donations help us put healthy food within reach and provide dignity, choice, and joy to our neighbours.

If you’ve already donated, thank you. If you’re able to give again, or share our project with friends and family, it makes all the difference.

With heartfelt thanks,
The Food Bus Team
