In Africa, nearly 116 million people live with mental health conditions, yet mental health receives less than 1% of health budgets. Rural and underserved communities lack access to care, leaving women and children most at risk. This project will provide grants to women-led nonprofit organizations to deliver counseling, awareness programs, and community support. Your support will expand access to services where they are urgently needed now.
Mental health remains one of the most neglected health needs in Africa. With less than one mental health worker per 100,000 people, millions suffer without diagnosis, treatment, or support. Stigma and lack of resources worsen the crisis, leaving rural and displaced communities with no access to care. Women and children are most affected, yet few resources exist to reach them. Without urgent funding, this gap will continue to grow.
This project will provide grants to women-led nonprofits so they can deliver mental health services in underserved communities. These organizations will run counseling sessions, awareness campaigns, and support groups tailored to local needs. Funding will help train local teams, produce educational materials, and extend services to rural areas where no care currently exists. By strengthening women-led groups, care can reach those who are most isolated.
By funding women-led nonprofits, this project will create a sustainable network of mental health providers across Africa. Over time, communities will be better informed, stigma will decrease, and more people will seek care. Women-led groups will be positioned to keep services running, mentor others, and expand coverage. With consistent funding, rural and displaced populations will gain lasting access to mental health care, improving community well-being for generations.
