Dearest GlobalGiving supporters,
We have exciting news to share from our project work in Cusco and the surrounding regions. This update highlights a major milestone for our project, enabled by your support.
Amantani, in collaboration with PRONABEC, has successfully launched its Beca 18 Academies in the Cusco area. These academies are dedicated spaces where we support 4th and 5th grade high school students as they strengthen the skills needed to open new opportunities on their path to higher education.
Education is not a path that young people walk alone; it requires the commitment of families and the entire community. When mothers, fathers, and caregivers get involved, the impact on a student’s journey is far deeper. That is why in communities like Ccorca, Huanoquite, and others, we carried out the signing of agreements and commitments with families and young people. This act symbolizes more than administration—it is the consent and support of families so their children can prepare with all the necessary tools and apply with confidence to Beca 18.
Thanks to this powerful collaborative effort between Amantani, PRONABEC, schools, local authorities, and families, more students than ever were able to sit the crucial Beca 18 pre-selection exam this year.
In Cusco specifically, we saw wonderful participation:
• 60 young people from districts including Ccorca, Huanoquite, Ccapi, Accha, and Omacha (41 young women and 19 young men).
• Families and teachers actively supported the process, with parents and educators present to encourage students.
This step is more than just an exam; it is an opportunity that brings higher education closer to young people in the Andes, helping to remove barriers and open pathways for the future. At Amantani, we believe education is built as a team effort. Together, we continue opening doors so that more young people can reach their dreams.
As ever, none of this happens without your support, generosity, insight or thoughtfulness.
Thank you for your continued, invaulable and compassionate support.
Hasta Pronto!
Iain
