1,700 students in Chinchina, the heart of Colombia's coffee region, have lost access to their public school due to horrible damage caused by the 7.4 earthquake on Aug 10th. We will award 50 merit-based scholarships to high-achieving, low-income students to have quality bilingual education at Colegio Menfis. We have already invested $ 300,000 to strengthen infrastructure and recruit native English teachers, bringing bilingual education to our rural community. Let's not let these kids down!
Rural youth often lack clear, credible pathways that show their effort, discipline, and leadership will be recognized and rewarded. When we allow the belief that academic excellence, leadership, and community service do not lead to real opportunities and motivation, hope declines, sadly. There is a need to identify, acknowledge, and reward young leaders by providing access to bilingual education and international exposure that can change their future. In the long term, the scholarship program will build a more resilient and prosperous rural coffee-growing community. Bilingual, well-educated youth gain access to higher education, better jobs, and global networks, reducing intergenerational poverty. As local leaders and role models, they inspire others, strengthen community leadership, and connect the region to international opportunities while preserving its agricultural roots. Rewarding these motivate students will be witnessed by all youth.
