This project seeks to empower local community members and youth population to have access to literacy programs. In doing so, this will enable them to address and advocate cross-cutting issues such as Gender Based Violence, HIV&AIDS & Drug Abuse in Papua New Guinea.
According to UNESCO, low levels of Literacy are a critical challenge for the PNG's development. Of the country's seven million people, more than a third (37%) are illiterate with the majority living in rural areas. These Low literacy rate has affected the communities in becoming changemakers in in their own communities. Therefore this project will assist more than 500 members of the local communities to improve their literacy rate and skills to improve their livelihoods.
This project will provide necessary training in basic literacy, skills training, in small to medium enterprise to mothers, young women, youth in becoming advocates in their communities to address cross cutting issues such as HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence & Drug substance abuse affecting their lives daily.
Mothers and young women including men and marginalized communities will have access to education, health prevention initiatives and capacity building for more than 500 community members with their families.
