Gaza's Children Deserve a Brighter Future

Gaza’s children are enduring a catastrophic crisis. Since October 2023, at least 65,062 Palestinians have been killed in the war, and 165,697 wounded. Thousands are believed to lie under the rubble. During the October 7 attack, Israel lost 1,139 lives, and around 200 people were taken captive.

Children in Gaza are among the hardest hit. Many have lost access to education: over half a million school-age children are without formal schooling as schools remain closed or destroyed. Nearly 90% of school buildings have been damaged or destroyed.

Malnutrition and famine loom large. More than half a million people—many of them children—are trapped in territories with extremely limited access to food, clean water, and medical care. Health facilities are severely compromised: over 80% of health facilities are damaged or destroyed, and newborns are especially vulnerable.

Psychological trauma is widespread. Thousands of children are unaccompanied or separated from parents; many have witnessed death and destruction, often without any mental health support. The long-term effects—on growth, learning, mental wellbeing—risk creating a “lost generation.”

The destruction of infrastructure—water, hospitals, schools—combined with restricted humanitarian access, has left urgent needs unmet. Without safe corridors, reliable delivery of aid, and protection of civilians and essential services, the survival, health, and rights of Gazan children remain in severe jeopardy.

Amid the ongoing crisis, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is providing daily hot meals to children and families suffering from acute food insecurity.
