INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

MARCH 8

Wouldn’t it be great to live in a gender equal world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination? A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive and where differences are valued and celebrated? Let’s unite to ensure women are not just treated equally, but also equitably!

This year’s campaign focuses on understanding why “equal opportunities” are not enough!

Let’s break this down…

Equality ensures everyone receives the same resources or opportunities. It assumes we are all starting from the same place.

The midwifery model of care recognizes the uniqueness of each individual and community. It not only strives for equal, but for equitable solutions. Equity-based solutions take into account diverse lived experiences, consider personal circumstances, cultural and community values and needs, and then allocate the exact resources and opportunities needed to achieve an equal as well as equitable outcome. Giving everyone the same resources does not foster equity. Individuals and communities all need custom crafted plans and resources to be successful and healthy. It is through equity and adapting services and policies according to these differences that we can change systemic and structural obstacles that interfere with people's ability to thrive.

Equity is a long-term and sustainable solution, and is a process for addressing imbalanced social systems. Haitian midwives are leaders and strive to build a more equal and equitable world.
 Join them today!

As we celebrate women's achievements and raise awareness about discrimination, let’s take action to drive gender parity by the promotion of the midwifery model of care in Haiti. Please join the mission to educate friends, family, colleagues, and the community on the need for
equality AND equity
Please follow us on social media (tag, share, follow). This month we will be highlighting Haiti's midwives' dedication to promoting equality AND equity.
