25 miles is the distance to walk to school for Nita. She lives in a very remote tribal area and the journey, at times, is dangerous.
Her father was so keen for her to get an education, alongside her siblings, but being a daily wage farm labourer, he couldn’t afford to pay for her education anymore. This is such a challenging situation, which many parents in India must face, and due to the extremely low wages they receive, it simply isn’t enough to provide for their family. Education becomes a privilege and not a right. They live in very poor conditions, with 6 family members living in one room, despite this, Nita is determined, and both Nita’s, her brother’s and sister’s grades reflect this.
Nita felt like she would never achieve the life for herself that she dreamed of.
Just when Nita and her father were losing hope, Solera Girls Home, our partner’s project, stepped in.
Nita now lives within walking distance from an incredible school, where she is receiving the education, she needs. She is very happy living amongst her peers and being supported by the dedicated team who live with them. She says she has made lots of friends!
Thanks to your generosity, children can build a bright future and break through the cycle of poverty and marginalisation.
