Protect girls from violence in school

Gender discrimination towards girls in schools across South Asia causes many girls to drop out of education completely. 

Our project aims to create a safe and supportive environment for girls from marginalised and excluded communities, who often face discrimination and violence in and out of school. The project provides sensitisation and training to teachers, adolescent boys, and fathers, as well as strengthening adolescent girls and mothers, to address these issues and stand up against gender discrimination. 

The project also supports girls from particularly vulnerable backgrounds to stay in a high-quality residential hostel, where they can pursue their education and develop their skills and build confidence. 

Meet Shubhu, who is one of the many girls our project serves.  

Shubhu’s parents work as labourers and the family lives in a slum where they fight to survive amidst rising crime levels. Despite experiencing the trauma of violence and poverty, Shubhu has completed her primary education and is now in 8th grade. 

 Thanks to your support, Shubhu participated in personal safety education training, where she learned about her body, consent, sexual abuse and gender equality.  

Shubhu said that ‘Girls can do anything they want in life.’ 

She is now aware of her rights, and how gender discrimination affects both herself and her peers and wants to be an advocate in her community.  

Shubhu is an example of how our project is working alongside girls to overcome discrimination and violence.
