Achal’s journey began in a difficult place. Growing up with alcoholic parents and a stepfather, her life was filled with uncertainty and hardship. She was almost forced into a child marriage and her future seemed bleak.
When Achal arrived at the Solera Girls’ Home, she faced new challenges. Adjusting to a new environment was tough and she felt overwhelmed but with time, the support and care from the staff began to make a difference. They provided her with a safe place to live, three meals a day and the chance to attend college regularly.
Achal started to participate in sports and cultural events, slowly building her confidence. She completed her 12th grade with a secondary school diploma. This was a turning point in her life.
Instead of going home during the summer holidays, she asked the director, Shilpa, if she could stay and take part in a vocational preparation course. Shilpa agreed, knowing that returning home would mean a life of herding goats and household chores surrounded by violence from her family.
Achal’s determination to create a better future for herself is clear in her own words:
“I want to do an apprenticeship and get a job in the public service where I can protect and save girls from my community from violence and child marriage.”
Thanks to the Solera Girls’ Home, Achal escaped a life of hardship, broke through the cycle of poverty and was given the chance to flourish.
Your support has been crucial in her journey, providing her with the resources and encouragement she needed.
Thank you for helping Achal and many other girls like her build a brighter future.
