This project sends 12 girls rescued from child marriage and/or are total orphans in secondary school, provides them with dignity kits, pays their school fees, and provides them with a productive asset and lifeskill training. Their mothers/guardians are empowered to support their girls' education through training in, and support for, their bio-briquetting enterprises that also help reduce indoor pollution from cooking with firewood. It also stirs climate change action from the grassroots level.
Young girls in West Pokot in Kenya live in anxiety for fear of being married off early. African PRIDE Centre works with a local partner to rescue girls forced into early marriage. With no economic empowerment, their mothers are often helpless in fighting off their girls' marriage. This impacts on overall women education in the area, with consequent negative indicators for health and wellbeing. It breeds and sustains a vicious cycle of violence against women and its consequences in the area.
African PRIDE Centre will work with the local partner to ensure the 12 girls rescued from child marriage and/or are total orphans access education. The support will include provision of dignity kits and educational needs, support to pay school fees arrears and pocket money, lifeskill training, and provision of productive assets. Their mothers/guardians will be trained in turning agro-wastes into bio-briquettes and supported to start bio-briquetting enterprises. Support supervision will be done.
The project will educate 12 girls rescued from child marriage and/or totally orphaned, and help their mothers/guardians start bio-briquetting enterprise. It will help the 12 targeted families scale-out of poverty. This will make the mothers/guardians better provide for their families' health and wellbeing. Educating the girls will make them educate their children, which will benefit their communities and their economies. The bio-briquetting enterprise will slow firewood-use-related pollution.
