This project will support girls and young women in Guatemala to graduate from school. This is especially significant in a country where only half the population graduate from primary school & girls and women are disproportionately kept out of the schooling system. We are working to ensure that girls are given an equitable chance, not only recieving the same education as their male peers but also the additional support programs needed to succeed, such as sex-education, health & nutrition.
At EFTC we believe that an equal opportunity to graduate from high school is essential to an equitable society. The problem is that in Guatemala girls and young women are less likely to graduate, and continue with their education, than their male peers. Adolescent girls in middle and high school are some of the most at-risk of dropping out due to societal and family pressures. We currently have 14 young women in these grades who need sponsors to support them in overcoming these challenges.
Providing a quality education to girls from the start of their schooling along with the holistic support needed to continue and succeed with this education is the key to ending gendered inequality in education. We have helped hundreds of girls graduate primary and middle school, who have then gone on to enter into our further education program and complete their tertiary education. We need your support to get the girls who do not have a sponsor to reach these same achievements.
That our students will have the support they need, having all of their educational and support costs covered in 2021 and beyond. This will help them receive the education they deserve and continue on with their studies becoming successful, empowered young women.
