Dreams Realized: Scholars University Acceptences

Dear friends,

One of the greatest joys of our work is walking alongside students for many years and celebrating the moment when they take the next step into higher education. This year, we are proud to highlight two of our graduating scholars who have recently been admitted to universities in Ghana. Their journeys reflect resilience, determination, and the transformative power of sustained mentorship and educational support.

Patricia — A Future in Design*

Patricia* has been admitted to Accra Technical University, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Technology in Fashion Design and Textiles. Her journey with GEC began in Grade 6 after her aunt brought her from the Northern Region to Accra in search of better educational opportunities. Life in Accra was not easy—her aunt supports the household by selling roasted corn and peanuts on the street for less than $2 a day.

Despite these challenges, Patricia* remained deeply committed to her education. With the support of GEC’s scholarship and mentorship, she excelled academically and achieved strong results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination. She later attended High School, where she discovered her passion for clothing and textiles. As the first member of her family to attend both high school and college, Patricia* dreams of becoming a globally recognized fashion designer who blends creativity with purpose and social impact.

Adwenpa — Determination and Perseverance*

Adwenpa* has also been admitted to the University of Professional Studies in Accra to pursue a Diploma in Management. He joined GEC in Grade 6 and has demonstrated remarkable perseverance throughout his academic journey. Raised by a single mother who supports four children through street vending, Adwenpa* faced many financial and educational challenges. With dedication and GEC's support, he remained focused on his studies and achieved this important milestone. He consistently demonstrated dedication and hard work in his daily studies.

Adwenpa’s mother shared her joy: “I’m overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude. My child’s success is a testament to hard work and the support he has received.”

These stories reflect the heart of our mission. Because of your generosity, young people who once faced significant obstacles are now stepping confidently into university classrooms and building futures filled with possibility.

Celebrating Milestones & New Beginnings

Dear GEC friends,

We hope this message finds you well. As the school term continues, we are delighted to share that our students remain focused, motivated, and deeply engaged in their academic journeys. Thanks to your unwavering support, GEC continues to walk alongside them—providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities that open doors to brighter futures.

This October, we celebrated an exciting milestone in our Changemaker Program: assisting our newest high school graduates with their university applications. This stage is always special for our team, as it represents both a moment of reflection and the beginning of an entirely new chapter filled with possibilities.

Before submitting their applications, S., S., L., and M. reached another monumental achievement—they successfully completed the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). These remarkable students were recruited into GEC during their elementary school years, and it has been a privilege to support them as they’ve grown into confident, capable young leaders. Their hard work, perseverance, and dedication have carried them to this moment, and we couldn’t be prouder.

While awaiting the release of their WASSCE results, our staff worked closely with students to help them explore programs of study, understand Ghana’s university landscape, and complete their applications. We also met with their parents to discuss academic pathways and financial considerations. Their parents are equally excited and optimistic as they await admissions decisions. Moments like this remind us of the transformative power of long-term, holistic support. The achievements of these young leaders are a testament to their resilience—and to the encouragement and opportunities you make possible through your generosity.

Our students' preferred areas of study are: Natural Resources Management & Geography, Fashion and Design, Public Administration & Education, and Business Administration. As we celebrate these accomplishments, we remain committed to guiding each student through this next chapter and beyond. We look forward to sharing more updates as admissions results are released and as they take their first steps into university life.

Changemakers: Growing Futures in Agriculture

Dear GEC friends and supporters,

We’re excited to share a recent milestone from our ChangeMaker Program, part of the Bright Futures for Ghanaian Scholars initiative. Recently, our students engaged in an immersive learning experience at the Ghana National Service Secretariat (NSS) Farm in Papao, Accra. The farm offers practical training for graduates completing their one-year mandatory national service, especially those pursuing careers in agriculture and related fields. Over the years, it has played a vital role in nurturing talent—many of its alumni are now prominent figures in Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

The farm, which specializes in crops, fisheries, poultry, piggery, and rabbitry, serves as a training ground for new graduates venturing into agriculture. The objective for this event was to provide our students with hands-on experience in agriculture, promote teamwork, and instill valuable work ethics.

Through a full day of volunteer work, our students joined service personnel in real-world farm tasks—collecting eggs, caring for rabbits and piglets, feeding fish, and even assisting with vaccinations for baby animals!

This wasn't just about the farm work—it was about larger life lessons as well. The students learned directly from long-time farm manager Mr. Cyril Tetteh, whose guidance brought the world of agriculture to life. He opened their eyes to career paths in agribusiness, sustainable farming, and livestock management, while reinforcing critical values like hard work, discipline, and innovation. This experience challenged our students to push themselves in new ways, built confidence, and inspired new possibilities.

This visit is part of our broader mission to develop civic-minded, innovative leaders. And thanks to your generous support, we’re able to expose our students to new fields, new ways of thinking, and real-world skills that prepare them for the future.

We are deeply grateful to Papao Farm, Mr. Cyril, and the national service team who guided and welcomed our students. And to you—our dedicated donors—thank you for making experiences like this possible. You are truly helping us grow the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.
