Water Wells for Africa brings to people in remote, hard-to-reach places in Africa their first water ever. This project will provide a water well to the village of Simon in rural Malawi, Africa. This village is difficult to reach and currently has no access to clean, close water. The villages we help are in areas where many other organizations do not go, but we have not forgotten these people on the fringes of life...and we invite YOU to be part of improving and saving lives in these villages.
Simon village does not have clean, easy-to-reach water sources. Instead, women and girls are forced to rise while it's still dark and trek almost a mile to a pond that's green with algae (see pics). Often this journey makes the girls late for school. Drinking unhealthy water, many people become ill with diarrhea and cholera. Globally each year, 700 children five-yrs-old & under die from diarrhea linked to unsafe water & poor sanitation. This project will provide water for 650 people.
You will help WWFA strategically place a water well to help the village community of Simon, Malawi. The burden of carrying water long distances will be removed from the females. The women will have quality time to care for their family; girls will attend school regularly. Gardens will grow; bricks will be made; clothes will be cleaned; and food cooked. People will not become sick/die. WWFA will provide personal hygiene education (WASH) and a local committee trained in well maintenance.
Sustainable water well systems are WWFA's specialty. With your generous gift, we'll install a simple, easy-to-maintain pump system that lasts up to 20 yrs. Villagers will know how to fix the well if it needs repair. We have proof our wells last this long. Families will be transformed as mothers spend more time with kids, men have water for the gardens, and health flourishes. You'll be part of dramatically improving 650 people's lives! This is a special & real opportunity you'll feel good about!
