The Gift of Clear Sight

By Vuyo Mngomezulu | Personal Assistant to the CEO

Introduction

Poor vision is a significant obstacle to education and employment, and many children and their families in the poorest regions of the world are often unaware of their difficulties. Due to limited or no access to opticians and/or glasses, uncorrected vision is the most common global eye problem. 2.5 billion people, 80% of whom are in just 20 countries, require a simple pair of glasses.

Report

Our goal is to identify individuals in rural and disadvantaged communities throughout Africa and connect them with eye specialists to provide vision testing and necessary eye care. This will give children in need a new chance at life and promote the health of the broader community. Professional screening will enable us to determine a child’s individual needs, and training will be provided to the child and their family to ensure proper use and maintenance of the device. So far, we have successfully tested hundreds of children in townships in Cape Town. Thanks to your support, it costs only $10 per eye test.
