Hello from Kazakhstan! You might be aware of the turbulent situation last few days. We are safe and sound and looking forward to go on our project.
In 2021, we collected in 5 regions (Karaganda, Shymkent, Pavlodar, Atyrau, Uralsk) 492 applications from candidates for mentorship (altogether, for all 13 regions, 1,778 applications were received). Finally, after 4 rounds of selection, 37 of them signed a contract and became mentors. Congratulations!
Pavlodar celebrated the Day of the Guardian, which is celebrated in Kazakhstan on the last Thursday of October. On this day foster parents, caregivers, mentors from across the region gathered together.
Yesenzhol the mentor Alexey shared his mentoring experience. He is also the Senior Engineer of Fire Service of the Regional Department of Emergencies.
«I wanted to be useful to someone and give a life-changing motivation. I try to meet in person Alexey once or twice a week. He was already in our Fire Dept, drove a fire truck, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he choose to become a firefighter. Introducing the boy was a life-changing experience for me also. When we meet and communicate, I forget about all my routine problems, all negative emotions go away somewhere» - shared Yesenzhol.
Due to the quarantine and moving of the orphanage to another building, the mentors from Atyrau did not have the opportunity to meet with children during the autumn. Atyrau mentors along with coordinators found creative solutions for educating children - recorded a video instruction on shopping, visiting medical clinics and polyclinic and community centres (Tson). Our mentors at Shymkent came up with a great idea for children - cooking workshops on weekends. Pizza, shawarma, hot dogs are just a little list of what the kids learned to cook. The masterclasses attracted not only the participants of the project but also all small residents of the orphanages.
