Hello Everyone!
As we start to look towards the end of the summer, we want to first, thank you so much for donating to our Bikes for Girls project on the matching day in July, we so appreciate your support, and of course thank you ongoing and recurring donors, we count on your donations to keep our program running! All your funding goes directly to buying bikes, helmets, and bike pumps. Thanks to all of you 260 girls have received new bikes this year so far! We are grateful to be able to help so many girls and ensure each one has a safe way to get to school.
This summer I was in Vietnam working with our staff and students, and one of my favorite moments of the trip that I love, is attending bike giving celebrations. See photo! Seeing how excited, happy, and proud the girls are receiving their new bikes, never gets boring or old! It is so fun. This time also allows me to better get to know the girls we support and learn a bit more about their lives. After our bike giving celebration at their schools, we often visit one or two girls at their homes, so that we can meet their parents and siblings. It is always eye-opening to see the hardship that many girls endure, and the poverty they live under, but each girl is truly inspirational to me. I hope that each of the girls’ stories of their success is just as inspirational to you as a donor.
For the girls who received a bike from us, and who attended our spring and summer tutoring classes in the village of Son Tan, we hope that they can delve deeper into subjects they are most passionate about in school, leading the way toward a better future beyond the traditional factory work they are often pushed into. Last week, we heard that four more girls were accepted to college! This is a huge achievement for a village that has only had one or two students ever make it to college! What great role models for the younger girls in the village they will be. We are so proud of all the girls.
Here are some photos of the summer bike givings that we hope you enjoy. Please share our organization with your friends.
Thank you and happy summer!
Phoebe
