A Bike for Trang and Her Grandmother

By Sara | Co-Founder

Dear Bikes for Girls Friends,

We wanted to share a quick story about one of our recent bike recipients. This is Trang, she is nine years old, and received a new bicycle from your donations in November. Trang is a very special little girl and is so happy to have received a bicycle. For a young girl, Trang has had to overcome many obstacles already in her life, her mom passed away from cancer a few years ago, and soon after, her father also passed away from an illness, both young themselves. Following the death of her parents, Trang was cared for by her aunt in Ho Chi Minh City, but after a year, her aunt moved Trang to Khanh Hoa to live with her grandmother, Tong. Tong is 83 years old, and takes good care of Trang, although they live in a very old house, with few things. Trang’s aunt works hard in Ho Chi Minh City and sends money to Tong to help care for Trang and pay for her school fees. The day that Trang received her new pink bicycle and helmet, she was so happy, but her grandmother was even more thrilled and thankful.

Just know that all of the donations that have been made for us to buy a bike and a helmet for Trang, is going to girls with similar stories to hers. Many families live on the edge of poverty, and things such as the loss of a family member, an illness, or simply the loss of a job, places families back into poverty very easily. School is important for most families in Vietnam, especially those living in the rural areas of the country. Education is one way for a family member to potentially be able to gain additional access to employment as an adult. Thank you for helping us provide this simple way to support girls getting to school every day!

Happy New Year!

Sara
