LET GIRLS STUDY

By Luke Jakoywa | Project Director

Providing counselling to girls
Providing counselling to girls

When the Kenyan Government statistics reported that  200,000 girls had gotten pregnant during the year 2020 lock down we as an institution did not report very many cases. However, beginning this term there is an evidence that at least 4 of our girls have gotten  pregnant and may not come back to school..

This is heart breaking despite the fact that we have continued to ensure that we provide the basic necessities for them to have an incentive to continue coming to school. We have continued carrying out the following activiities to ensure their learning namely;

  1. Purposeful counselling and teaching life skills to make them accept themselves and avoid being lured to such vices as early pregnancy.
  2. Provide lunch as an incentive and an encouragement to let them come to school as majority rely on such since their parents or guardian cannot not afford for them.
  3. Some well wishers have continued to help us provide sanitary towels and other clothings to encourage them not to miss school even when they are at their periods.

Our appeal

  1. The need to have a social worker who can continue to make visits and monitor our girls is vital for us to assist them before being lured into early sex and pregnancy, however, our greater hindrances is finance.
  2. We sincerely appeal to you as our supporter to get involve in our monthly support. Monthly support is a sure source of income which can help us plan and ensure none of our girls leave school prematurely.
  3. We encourage you to take advantage of GlobalGiving 200% matching for the recurrent monthly donation. GlobalGiving has declared that every recurrent monthly donors will be matched 200% during the entire year 2022.
  4. We also appeal not only for financial support but even material support like inner clothes, sanitary towels and other items that can encourage girls and uplift their dignity.

Way Forward

The most assured way for the girls to finish their schooling is continued monthly support. However, we have not had anyone consistently supporting us monthly on ensuring that girls finish their school. I want to thank you so much for at least having been one of those who have made us to contionue despite many challenges.

May I wish you a great year ahead of 2022 and may God open many doors that you continue to give hope to the vulnerable girls..
